ABRUZZO

“Più in là che Abruzzi” (Beyond Abruzzi) quoting Calandrino (the innocent lead figure of a novel by Decamerone di Boccaccio) to evoke a proverbial, fabulous and mystical distance. Abruzzo is a fascinating region and is still unknown under certain aspects. There is an historical and archaeological wealth on unpublished information on the Italic peoples that lived in these regions prior to the Roman conquests. The region has the Parchi Nazionali D’Abruzzo (Abruzzo National Park), the Gran Sasso-Monti della Laga, the Maiella and the Parco Regionale Sirente-Velino (Regional Park Sirente Velino) and also an elaborate network of regional and national natural reserves and oasis. The urban structure shows a system of settlements, stratified over time, made up of small and bigger centres and offers a strong concentration in the area of Chieti and Pescara of settlements and services.
